Cassettes are part of the collective memory, nowadays replaced by new technologies. The cases that were used to construct our word were donated by people that also shared their memories & bond with tapes.
We asked for it and made a campaign. The word is also conected to a machine, blackbox, that we also developed.
The word we wrote REC links the medium to its meanings. In spanish “REC” is an abbreviation of “RECuerdo” (memory), but it is also the nomenclature used in recording devices. The result is an installation that tries to take us back in time and honour the beauty of the object: tape.
Medium: Cassette tapes, Bic pens & rubber bands.
Size: 1,60 mts x 0,80 mts
A device that enabled to hear what the piece was made from, listening to the tapes, which we digitised before building the sculpture. We also wanted for the visitors to leave their own memory or bond with cassettes, which this device also allowed them to. This made our work a collaborative piece with the public from start to finish.
